Through a systematic approach, grounded in models like SAM and Action Mapping, I have established a solid foundation for an interactive learning experience. Utilizing powerful tools such as Articulate Storyline, Keynote, and Illustrator, I have developed an immersive presentation that visualizes the complexities of railway management in an understandable manner. The Kirkpatrick Model has aided me in measuring the effectiveness of the learning experience. This robust foundation has led to the development of 'Transportuga Bay,' for which I have also engaged Grendel Games to create an even more interactive and immersive experience.

Project: Memory Training Game for Seniors with Dementia.

Goal: Develop an interactive game to stimulate cognitive functions, especially memory, in seniors with dementia at Carintreggeland. This game utilizes body movements instead of traditional input devices like mice or keyboards.

Target audience: Seniors with dementia. Tech stack: Miro, Figma/Adobe XD, Unity3D, Blender, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Ableton Live/Bitwig, Windows, Microsoft Kinect.


Process: Brainstorming, prototyping, game development, visual elements, audio, video editing.

Results: An interactive game tailored to the cognitive needs of seniors with dementia, positively impacting cognitive functions and providing an engaging and user-friendly interface.

This project combined my passion for game development with my interest in inclusivity and technology for social impact. I gained valuable experience working with a specific target group and adapting game design to their needs. This project showcases my skills in various software tools and my ability to lead teams.

FUN-IE-FIT: A Center for Inclusive Gaming and Wellness

FUN-IE-FIT is an innovative center combining gaming, sports, and health to empower individuals with physical disabilities. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of their limitations, can enjoy gaming while improving their health.

The Ultimate Arcade is a cornerstone of FUN-IE-FIT, featuring a specially designed game controller for individuals with limited hand and finger movement. Developed by Broadened Horizons, this controller enables gameplay using large joysticks, extra-large buttons, and sip-and-puff or bite-handsfree switches.

Project: Accessible Games for FUN-IE-FIT

  • Goal: Develop a series of accessible games tailored to FUN-IE-FIT's target audience, focusing on improving motor skills, cognitive functions, and overall well-being.

  • Target Audience: Children and adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.

  • Tech Stack: Miro, Figma/Adobe XD, Unity3D, Maya, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Ableton Live/Bitwig, Windows, Broadened Horizons Ultimate Arcade 3 Game Controller.

  • Process: Brainstorming, prototyping, game development, visual elements, audio, video editing.

  • Results: Inclusive games designed for individuals with limited motor skills, enhancing their quality of life and receiving positive user feedback.

  • My Role: As an instructor, I led an international team, provided project framework, coached on content, and integrated the Ultimate Arcade controller, optimizing games for various user profiles.

Oculus Drift: A VR Racing Game for Individuals with Spinal Cord Injuries

In collaboration with Saxion University and Game Coach Michael Robbert Brans (funiefit), we developed Oculus Drift, an innovative VR racing game specifically designed for adults with spinal cord injuries. By utilizing the Oculus Rift and tracking head movements, players can race through virtual environments simply by moving their heads.


Goal:
To create a fun and engaging gaming experience that trains neck muscles (stealth learning) and improves the quality of life for individuals with spinal cord injuries.

Oculus Drift has achieved a significant milestone: it was named the most innovative project in Twente. This success led to a presentation to Queen Máxima, who expressed great interest in the technology's impact on the lives of people with spinal cord injuries.

Miro, Figma/Adobe XD, Unity3D, Maya, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Windows, Oculus VR development kit


Process:
Through collaborative brainstorming with occupational therapists and game designers, we laid the foundation for Oculus Drift. Using prototyping tools like Figma, we refined and tested gameplay. The game's core was built in Unity3D, with a special focus on integrating the Oculus Rift and ensuring accessibility for players with spinal cord injuries. The game's visual world was brought to life with 3D models in Maya and vibrant graphics in Photoshop.


Results:

  • Inclusive VR Experience: Oculus Drift offers a unique and accessible VR experience for individuals with spinal cord injuries, empowering them to actively participate in gaming.

  • Improved Neck Muscle Strength: By moving their heads during races, players effectively train their neck muscles in a fun and engaging manner.

  • Positive Feedback: The game has been well-received by both players and healthcare professionals.


My Role:
As an instructor and project supervisor, I played a crucial role in coordinating the international team and ensuring the quality of the final product.
